Voting Wisely

Posted by latrommi on 12:13 AM on March 21, 2007.

Sigh. I'm sorry for keeping this stale for a while. More than month? sheesh. I feel lame.

Anyway. Here's my bit. I wrote this a month ago. Go figure why I kept it that long.

My cousin and I were discussing-- no, more of laughing about senatorial bids' TV ads and posters. Within the conversation, he told me the other day that citizens who're not registered for the polls do not have the right to complain about the country's politics.

I did not register for the May 2007 elections simply because during the registration period, I found no interesting candidates to vote for. But I disagree with what my cousin said. I am a taxpayer, (VAT is a form of taxation. Do not argue.) and I am a Citizen of this country; I'm one of the millions of masters of the Government: I have every god-fucking-given right to complain.

I side with neither party (gaGO nor TUta), I stand in the middle. And still, I can say, How can we not complain?

The opposition, as per two-party systems, is described to be the side that checks and balances governmental decisions; not the guard of its leaders' (and or families') bank accounts and Ill-gotten wealth.

Senatoriable Hon. (pun intended) Representative Alan Peter Cayetano, The son of Rene "CompaƱero" Cayetano, has made it a goal to unravel exposes against the first family-- First Gentleman Arroyo to be specific-- within his last term as the congressman-elect of the lone district of Taguig-Pateros. A Daily Tabloid, Pilipino Star Ngayon, dated March 5, 2007 wrote that this lawmaker does not have one LAW to his name. I went on to check his profile on the Philippine Congress's official website, and saw 14 HouseBills under his name; almost all of which are Schools in the Taguig area. None of them are laws, to reiterate my point.

(Sidenote: I've always found it funny for people to refer to the House of Representatives as Congress, and that the Congress is different from the Senate. The Congress is consisted of two chambers, the Senate and the House of Representatives) I compared Honorable Representative Francis Escudero's profile against Cayetano's. I saw 98 Bills and Laws (collective) under his name, and more than six co-authored bills.

I can't speak any more, for fear that I be charged with black propaganda. Just a friendly reminder, voters: On that official ballot you are to fill up on May 14th, 2007, don't forget to put "wisely" on it.

Go figure.

On Kris Aquino

Posted by latrommi on 03:04 PM on February 28, 2007.

I wonder why I haven't read any tabulas entries about the Kris Aquino- James Yap issue.

As my mom said, "Telenovela yang buhay ni Kris Aquino." Her being a big fan of the Actress/TV host. But why is she given this much attention? Let's lay down all the points.

1. She's the daughter of the late Benigno Aquino Jr. and The very useful President Corazon Aquino.

One word: Fuck. She's worth fuck. We don't even pay this much attention to Jinggoy Estrada's personal life; better yet, does anybody here know Angelina Jones and Carolina Sembrano? No? they're the daughters of Fidel Ramos.

2. She's an actress.

Nope, won't do. We haven't paid this much attention to Vic Sotto's Concubinage issues. Not even Dolphy's, considered the best comedian around.

Need I go on? It hurts my eyes to see that her leaving her and yap's house headed for Cory Aquino's residence is a FRONTPAGE SCOOP in a daily broadsheet. A daily broadsheet for crying out loud. It would've been ok if it were a tabloid, but a daily broadsheet... sheesh.

Note to the editor-in-chief of the Philippine Daily Inquirer: there are much much more interesting stories than that. You obviously are using the issue to profit from it. Responsible journalism my ass.

Then again, Noynoy Aquino may gain some votes from this. Politics. Sigh.

Philippine Politics

Posted by latrommi on 09:47 PM on February 13, 2007.

If there's one thing I'm lucky enough to have right now, it's Cable TV. That means I don't have to settle for second-rate Soap Operas which The Itchyworms exactly defined in their song "Soap O Pera", and I needn't see politicians' TV ads.

One wrong moment, however, caught me. "Pangarap kong tuparin ang mga panagarap ninyo. Prospero Pichay po, Pro-Filipino." He said these words while his hands was over a boy's shoulders (Micheal Jackson intervention), and a camera panning that shows a poster of our beloved (super pun intended) president on the background.

Point one: Government Official's Posters.

Seriously, no legislator has even authored a law to contradict this. "GMA cares" as a DPWH board on a repavemnet-bound road says. GMA cares. She should, really, because she's the president. The people aren't stupid. "Maynila ATIN SYA" Says a huge Tarpaulin poster beside the Manila City Hall, with Lito Atienza's Face over The Philippine Flag. One, Someone's face over a Philippine Flag is an outright act of disrespect. Two, I never heard anybody saying "Manila's not mine." Come on people!

Point two: "Pangarap"

Ok, Everybody has a dream, and everybody wants that dream to come true. If your dream is to make other people's dreams come true, then why don't you just give out money? Make their dreams happen. You don't need to be in the senate to do that.

Point three: What we need in the senate.

The senate, as the constitution and any other republic, federation or whatever type of government, is a LEGISLATIVE BODY, and so is the House of representatives. We need legislators. LEGISLATORS for crying the fuck out loud. We don't need actors, actresses and whatnot; we need an objective congregation of people to author proposals and turn them in to law for the good of the state, the people! We don't need people like Mr Allan Peter Redundant Cayetano whose life's purpose is to produce scandals against the Arroyos. We already know that, dumdum! It is a fact that they Lie, Cheat, and Steal. JUST LIKE YOU DO.

Point four: The current administration.

The Arroyo administration has been very keen with economic statistics. I say its priorities are out of balance. Let's see here. Go to your local public elementary school and check the facilities out. Next, check its faculty, its curricula, its staff. If you do that, you don't have to look at the students anymore.

Next up, Go to the University of the Philippines in Diliman. A state University. Considered an Ivy-League University of sorts here in our country for it hosts the "best" minds. Check out: Buildings that seem to be older than any of UST's; and mind you, UST is the oldest one around. Toilets that let out foul odors, crumbling waiting shades. The only new building around is the Center for Economics!

The Constitution provides that the annual fund for education be not less than 50 percent of the total. Where is it going, Ms. Arroyo?

The Circus is in town, as my colleague and The daily broadsheet Inquirer put it.

Widow Politics

Posted by latrommi on 09:50 AM on February 9, 2007.

On the Inquirer today:

"JV out of UNO ticket; Roco in."

You've heard of Mrs Raul Roco, right?

I pity JV Ejercito. Then again, I don't like him. Wait, that makes me pity him more. Hahahahaha!

So here's what going to happen. The widow of a former Presidentiable, Senator, etc who always ran under an independent flag will now join the United Opposition.

What is it with widows?

The Yellow widow of the 500-peso face became president after the people power revolt. What happened to her? What did she do? She stuck to the "Transitional President" profile. And with that, I mean she did nothing. Nothing but repel coup attempts (which I think she planned along with the army to make her look pitiful [yay conspiracy theories!])

During the last two years, some of us thought that the Widow of a fallen Movie Action Star was planning for something political. Well, now she's back to acting. Good for you, madamme.

Now... A widow, again, for senate. Mrs. Roco, the better half of Raul Roco who was once the best DepEd governor, best presidentiable (if only he didn't get cheated on).

Here's a simulation of her campaign.

"Nang mamatay ang asawa ko, hindi ko na alam ang aking gagawin. Ngayon alam ko na. At sana lahat ng sumuporta sa kanya, suportahan din ako at ang UNO. Maawa na kayo sa akin, namatayan ako ng asawa. huhuhuhu"

(Crowd weeps)

"Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat..." (Teary eyed)

(Crowd applauds loudly)

Have you noticed? The opposition has many Widows. You can count Loren Legarda in, her former husband Antonio Leviste is as good as dead.

Still, I want to reiterate that my support for my 2010 president will not falter.

JUDAY FOR PRESIDENT IN 2010!!!!

=============

On American Politics:

I would want Condeleeza Rice to be president. See, she'd grab all the firsts. First Black and First Female President of the United F'n States of America.

Either her, or Hillary Clinton.

The ex-New York mayor is so much better than George "dubyah" Bush, we can all agree to that, but diversity could be good for the states.

But what the hell do I care?

Destroy the United States of America!!!
Death to America!
